Extrinsic stains, or stains on the surfaces of teeth, are often caused by dark-pigmented foods and drinks, such as berries, coffee, red wine, and tea. Smoking, age, genetics, and environmental factors can also lead to extrinsic stains.
Intrinsic stains occur on the inside surfaces of teeth and are typically the result of medications or medical conditions.
Teeth whitening treatment uses hydrogen-peroxide-based whitening gel to reduce or eliminate extrinsic stains. Does teeth whitening hurt?

Can anyone undergo teeth whitening?

Don't over-the-counter products do the same thing?
In a word: no.
